Cultivation of Natural Substrate
Motivation and challenges
In order to develop a technical system for the successful and long-term colonisation of mosses, optimal or mandatory conditions that promote moss growth need to be determined. The transfer of these as yet undetermined conditions should provide initial information on feasibility in a technical system. In addition to vitality, optimal water and nutrient supply are of central importance for productive moss growth.
Project insight and perspectives
In order to determine successful cultivation methods, natural substrates are first examined in experimental studies and the stimulation of colonisation identified. The substrates are stored in day-night test chambers and exposed to defined lighting scenarios and environmental conditions. The colonisation success is recorded gravimetrically (determination of the biomass) and visually (photo documentation).
